Kiwi opener Colin Munro smashed the Windies bowlers all over the park when he scored an 18-ball 50 in the second T20I at Bay Oval. Despite getting a good start when the Windies managed to get the lone wicket off Martin Guptill in the first over and then came Munro came at No. 3 and feasted on the poor deliveries of the bowlers.
Eventually, he amassed 66 off 23 deliveries with the help of 11 fours and 3 sixes. His fifty is the second-fastest for New Zealand in T20Is, behind his own record of 14 deliveries.
Munro equaled the record of David Warner and Glenn Maxwell for scoring multiple fifties in less than 20 deliveries in the T20Is. This fifty was also the fourth quickest in T20Is. Munro hit four consecutive boundaries off Kesrick Williams before being dismissed.
New Zealand is leading the three T20I series as they won the first game by 47 runs. Munro didn’t fail to score in that match either. Munro also had a memorable series against India last year. Munro’s quick runs in the second T20I helped New Zealand to score 86 runs on the power play. New Zealand were 102/4 after nine overs before the play had been stopped due to rain. However, the play was called off because of persistent rain.
According to ESPNCricinfo, Munro had the second-highest percentage of boundaries in a T20I score of 50 or more – beaten only by Australia’s Shane Watson. Munro collected all but four of his 66 runs from boundaries (93.93%), while Watson managed 94.73% when making 54 off his 57 runs against Sri Lanka in 2008 by virtue of boundaries. His innings strike of 286.95 was the fourth-highest for scores of 50 or more – Yuvraj Singh holds the record of 362.5 for his 58 off 16 balls against England in 2007.
