Corona Virus hits Australian Cricket team!

Australia’s Kane Richardson is suspected to have Corona Virus and is being tested for the same. The Australian fast bowler had complained of suffering from a sore throat, a day before the match. Because of the contagious nature of the virus, Richardson has been quarantined.  He is being tested for COVID-19 and advised into self-isolation. The test results for the same are yet to come.

Richardson is set to miss the first ODI between Australia and New Zealand at SCG on Friday. Alike for like replacement in the form of  Sean Abbott has been called up to fill the spot vacated by Richardson.

The spread of Corona Virus has become a major thing now with the Word Health Organization declaring it a pandemic. More than 120,000 people have been tested positive of the virus with 400+ deaths across the globe. To avoid mass gathering and spread of virus, many sporting events have been suspended or canceled. Few sporting bodies are continuing their matches but they will be played behind closed doors to avoid the spread of the virus.

Cricket Australia spokesperson said :“Our medical staff are treating this a typical throat infection but we are following Australian Government protocols that require us to keep Kane away from other members of the squad and perform the appropriate tests given he has returned from international travel in the last 14 days.”

He continues with,“Once we receive the results of the tests and Kane recovers in the next few days we expect he will re-join the team. We will not be making further comment until something changes.”

The ongoing ODI between Australia and New Zealand is also being played under closed doors. Athletes and staff members who stay and travel with the team have been suggested to follow the association’s advisory guidelines and avoid physical contact with fans and media personnel.
