Cricket South Africa Confirms India’s Tour To The Rainbow Nation

On Friday, Cricket South Africa (CSA) has confirmed that Team India will be touring to the rainbow nation in December later this year. The much-awaited tour will comprise of three Tests, as many One-Day Internationals, and four Twenty-20 Internationals. The tour will be commencing on 17 December 2021 and ends on 26 January 2022.

Cape Town and Paarl will be hosting most of the matches between India and South Africa. Initially, it had been confirmed that the New Year’s Test (third) was expected to be hosted at the Wanderers in Johannesburg but it has now been confirmed that the third Test in the series will in fact take place at Newlands in Cape Town. 

Announcing the same, CSA Director of Cricket, Graeme Smith said, “CSA is excited to welcome India back to South Africa, which also significantly marks the 30th anniversary of South Africa’s first tour to India after re-entry into International Cricket in 1991. This tour affirms our unique relationship with the BCCI.”

On the other hand, CSA Acting Chief Executive Officer, Pholetsi Moseki said, “This tour comes at a fitting moment when Cricket South Africa, together with the people of the world celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s 152nd birthday. We are indeed indebted to India for its support to our cricket efforts over the years. We are looking forward to hosting our guests for what promises to be nail-biting on-field encounters.”

All the Test matches are part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 cycle.

Indian tour to South Africa:

  • 1st Test – Dec 17-21: Wanderers, Johannesburg
  • 2nd Test – Dec 26-30: SuperSport Park, Centurion
  • 3rd Test – Jan 3-7: Newlands, Cape Town
