With Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) elimination from IPL 2024, speculations abound regarding the future of their iconic player, MS Dhoni. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan commented on the situation, saying, “He has not told us anything. He does not tell us such things anyway. He just decides,” as reported by Cricbuzz.

Given the looming mega auction before the next IPL season, Dhoni will need to make a decision soon. The franchises are required to announce their retentions by the second half of 2024. CSK’s defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Saturday night dashed their hopes of making it to the IPL 2024 playoffs, intensifying the curiosity around Dhoni’s future.

Reports indicate that Dhoni has returned to his hometown Ranchi, but no discussions regarding his future with CSK have taken place yet. He typically entered the game during the latter stages of the innings, batting in the lower order.

CSK CEO added, “The way he batted, he can surely continue. But it will be up to him.”

Last season, Dhoni played through a knee injury and underwent surgery in Mumbai immediately following CSK’s title victory. His resilience and determination have always been noteworthy, leaving fans hopeful for his return.

Ambati Rayudu, Dhoni’s former CSK teammate, expressed optimism about Dhoni’s continuation in the IPL. He stated on Star Sports, “I don’t think this is his last game. I just don’t see him wanting to end on this note. He looked a little frustrated, even when he got out. That’s very unlike MS Dhoni; he just wanted to qualify and finish on a high. But you never know with MS Dhoni; he might come back next year.”

Rayudu’s sentiments resonate with many who believe that Dhoni, known for his unpredictability, might still have more to offer in the next season.
