CSK donate 2 crores to CRPF as a tribute to the Martyrs of Pulwama

Prior to the series-opener game between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) of the 12th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), CSK has donated 2 crores for a noble cause as they have paid the tribute to the Pulwama Martyrs. CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has handed over the cheque to the Inspector General of the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) after the toss. However, BCCI also has donated 20 crores to the Indian armed forces.

After having won the toss against RCB, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, CSK captain MS Dhoni was seen giving the cheque on behalf of the franchise. The donation has been made by the funds received from the total ticket sales of the opening game of the season. The entire money has been provided to the CRPF jawans to honour the memory of that 40 army personnel who killed in the Pulwama attacks which happened in February.

However, the donation will be transferred to the CRPF soldiers’ families who lost their lives in the horrible terrorist attack that shook the entire nation. The breakup of the money which BCCI has donated- Rs 11 crore was donated to the Indian Army, Rs 7 crore was contributed to the CRPF and Rs 1 crore each was given to the Navy and Air Force respectively.

Vinod Rai, The CoA chairman said, “As a federation, we felt it was best not to hold a regular IPL opening ceremony. Instead, we decided to contribute the amount towards a cause that is so important and close to everyone’s heart.”

“This comes as a welcome move and as a mark of respect to the ones who lost their lives in the terror attack. The BCCI has always been sensitive towards issues of national interest and will continue to make contributions whenever the need arises,” said Diana Edulji, the CoA member.
