Five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have reportedly parted ways with their long-serving batting coach Michael Hussey as the franchise begins preparations for the 2027 season. According to a report by Cricbuzz on Saturday, the CSK management has decided to end its association with Hussey, who has been an integral part of the franchise’s coaching setup since 2018.

The former Australian batter also represented CSK as a player for several years before taking up the coaching role. The decision comes amid a significant restructuring of the franchise’s support staff. CSK parted ways with Stephen Fleming earlier this year and appointed former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan in his place. Bowling coach Eric Simmons has also left the setup, with former India pacer Mohit Sharma reportedly taking over the role.
Meanwhile, the future of fielding coach James Foster remains uncertain. CSK are yet to confirm who will replace Hussey as their batting coach ahead of IPL 2027.

Hussey’s next move will be worth watching, particularly given his longstanding association with Fleming. Reports in August suggested that Fleming wanted the former Australian international to become England’s new batting coach in Test cricket.

With Fleming preparing for his first Test series as England head coach, Hussey could emerge as a potential addition to the coaching staff.
The 51-year-old already has experience working with England, having served as a consultant during the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He played a role in helping the team secure the title and has also been involved in franchise coaching, including his position as head coach of Welsh Fire in The Hundred.

Reflecting on his experience with England, Hussey admitted that wearing the team’s shirt initially felt unusual. However, he said working closely with the players and building individual relationships quickly became the priority. With CSK reshaping their coaching department ahead of the next IPL season, Hussey’s departure could open the door to a new chapter in his coaching career.
