After losing overseas spinner Mitchell Santner and Indian batsman Kedar Jadhav due to injuries, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed English left-arm pacer David Willey for the IPL 2018. This creates enough problem for county cricket team Yorkshire as their another pacer Liam Plunket has lately joined the IPL team Delhi Daredevils after Proteas pacer ruled out from this tournament due to an injury.

While CSK was not interested in the replacement of Santner, Kedar Jadhav’s injury has forced to take a new player and that is Yorkshire left-arm pacer, David Willey.

It will be maiden IPL tournament for the 28-year-old left-arm pacer, while Yorkshire is facing problem after losing their two pacers lately for IPL. Earlier, Liam Plunket replaced Delhi Daredevils pacer Kagiso Rabada at the last moment before the beginning of the IPL 2018. In-form pacer Rabada has suffered a back injury in the recently concluded home Test series against Australia and that has forced him to miss this year’s IPL.

Talking about the tough situation, Yorkshire’s Director of Cricket Martyn Moxon said, “We find ourselves in an impossible situation with these late replacement requests. At the moment, we are potentially looking at a situation where if we deny a player an opportunity, we will be left with someone who is not completely focused on playing for Yorkshire. This would be counter-productive. There are now 12 English players in this year’s IPL, so the issue goes further than just here at Emerald Headingley.”

While the English County season will begin on this Friday, it will be tough for Yorkshire to choose the perfect replacement for them. Moxon also said that he will call for the introduction of a cut-off date during the upcoming meeting to discuss future of the game.

He said on that, “I will be chairing a meeting with other directors of cricket tomorrow at Edgbaston to discuss the future of the game. With the number of domestic T20 contracts available worldwide, it is important that we future-proof the County Championship. I will be calling for the introduction of a cut-off date, after which players will not be allowed to go to the IPL. Hopefully, this can gain national approval and be supported by the ECB.”
