CSK terminates Their Team Doctor For His Tweet on Galwan Clash

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) terminated the services of its team doctor Madhu Thottappillil for one of his recent tweets after the death of 20 Indian Army personnel. On Wednesday, the s during a clash with Chinese troops in eastern Ladakh which was deemed to be in “bad taste” by the IPL franchise.

CSK, captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni who holds the rank of an honorary lieutenant in Territorial Army, announced the suspension on its official Twitter page.

The team is owned by former BCCI President N Srinivasan’s India Cements. CSK’s statement regarding the same, read: “The Chennai Super Kings Management was not aware of the personal tweet of Dr. Madhu Thottappillil. He has been suspended from his position as the Team Doctor. Chennai Super Kings regrets his tweet which was without the knowledge of the Management and in bad taste.”

Thottappillil has been with the team since the inaugural season of the IPL and he specializes in sports medicine. On Tuesday, after reports came in of Indian casualties during the violent face-off in Galwan Valley, Thottappillil had posted a tweet mocking the government. He later deleted the tweet and protected his account.

In the worst clash between the Indian Army and Chinese soldiers in over fifty years, India lost 20 of its soldiers in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley region on Monday night. The Chinese side has also suffered more than 40 soldiers. At a time when the entire world is fighting against the coronavirus, thanks to China, the bloody clash which has made the tension between the neighbors worse and has left many in shock.

The face-off took place while efforts to de-escalate the tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh were taking place. In a statement regarding the same, the Indian army wrote: “During the de-escalation process underway in the Galwan Valley, a violent face-off took place yesterday (Monday) night with casualties on both sides. The loss of lives on the Indian side includes an officer and two soldiers.”
