The young Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener, Abhishek Sharma played a fiery knock of 65 off 42 balls against Gujarat Titans and helped his team to reach a defendable score of 195/6 in their 20 overs. Though Gujarat managed to chase the total owing to the fiery knocks of Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia, SRH were in the game almost till the last over. Rashid Khan conceded 45 runs in his spell with the ball before playing the fiery knock of 11-ball 31* against his former franchise.

Abhishek Sharma smashed 34 runs off 15 balls from Rashid’s spell which included three sixes and a boundary through covers. Former Kiwi skipper Daniel Vettori decoded how the southpaw scored the suns against the Afghan spinner. He further said that the way he batted against Rashid reminded him of Chris Gayle and Suresh Raina.

Explaining the same, Daniel Vettori said, “You talk about the great players and their ability to pick up the length, and as soon as Rashid Khan got slightly full, he latched onto it. I think he hit him for three sixes, and they all were just from the case of extending out his front foot and getting to the pitch of the ball. I think Chris Gayle or Suresh Raina have had similar sort of results against him and not many others, and it was through that style of being able to reach the ball.”

Daniel Vettori further said that being teammates at SRH in the previous editions of IPL and playing Rashid Khan in the nets helped him to read the leg spinner better.

Explaining it further, Daniel Vettori said, “You hear batters talk all the time, ‘I can’t pick that guy and another guy can pick him’, and you just don’t understand why that’s the case, because they’re both very similar batters, but their comfort level with facing someone like that [is different].”

He further added, “Whether Abhishek Sharma got it from the nets, the experiences maybe through conversations, maybe Rashid Khan was Abhishek Sharma’s confidante, and they exchanged notes, and they got to the point where Abhishek felt comfortable, but it was just a brilliant innings.”

SRH is placed third on the points table after losing the game against the Titans. They face CSK next on May 30 at the DY Patil stadium in Mumbai.
