In the intense clash between Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024, Daryl Mitchell showcased his batting prowess once again. Having established himself as one of the most consistent batters in world cricket, Mitchell joined CSK’s ranks for the season with high expectations. However, despite his solid performances, a notable big score has eluded him in the IPL, a trend that continued in the recent encounter against Punjab Kings.

Facing PBKS in match 53 of the tournament, CSK found themselves batting first after Punjab Kings won the toss and elected to bowl. Early on, CSK suffered the loss of opener Ajinkya Rahane, but Mitchell, coming in at number 3, displayed his attacking intent and counter-attacked the opposition.

Mitchell’s innings showed promise as he accumulated 30 runs off 19 balls, featuring two boundaries and a six. However, his innings was cut short by Harshal Patel on the fifth ball of the 10th over, just after CSK had lost Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube in quick succession.

Facing a length delivery from Patel angled into the middle and leg, Mitchell attempted a flick but missed the ball entirely. The ensuing appeal led to the umpire raising his finger, prompting Mitchell to opt for the Decision Review System (DRS). Despite his hopes, the Ball Tracking revealed that the ball was clipping the stumps, resulting in the umpire’s call and confirming his dismissal.
