On Saturday, a CPL media release stated that he disgraced Australian cricketer David Warner will be featuring in the forthcoming edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in the team of St Lucia Stars where he will replace fellow Australian D’Arcy Short, who’s been chosen to be a part of Australia A’s tour of India at that time.

Warner lost his place in the Australian squad in the national squad for spearheading the ball-tampering scandal in the Newlands Test earlier this year and he has been banned to play cricket in and for Australia for 12 months, but was allowed to participate in domestic competitions worldwide.

Earlier this month, the southpaw got the confirmation for playing in the Global T20 Canada league for Winnipeg Hawks. He also smashed a quickfire century in the Brisbane’s Allan Border Oval on Thursday against Australia National High-Performance Squad. However, his participation in the CPL will be the biggest boost for him since he has been banned to play International cricket along with Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft. It is interesting to note that while David was allowed to play in the franchise-based tournaments around the world, BCCI went ahead and suspended him, along with Smith, from taking part in IPL 2018.

Mohammad Khan, St Lucia Stars’ General Manager, said: “We are excited to bring David to the Saint Lucia Stars. David is arguably one of the greatest batsmen of the modern day cricket. He is going to add a lot of value on the field and in the dressing room as we pursue our first Hero CPL Title.”

Warner’s experience in T20 cricket is unparalleled as he has been regarded as one of the most explosive openers in the shortest format,  having scored 7668 runs, including six centuries and 59 fifties. He’s also been a fine leader in the format, having led the Sunrisers Hyderabad to an IPL title in 2016.

St Lucia Stars will play their first game of the 2018 edition against defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders on August 8.
