The suspended Australian opener, David Warner’s one-year ban for his involvement in the ball-tampering will soon be expiring in the last week of March and the Southpaw is expected to be back playing for Australia at the highest level soon after, but he has now suffered an elbow injury during the ongoing season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
On the basis of his batting form in BPL, Warner is certain to walk into the Australian side. The reigning world champions are struggling in the absence of Warner and its former captain, Steve Smith who was also handed a one-year ban over his involvement in the ball-tampering scandal during a Test match against South Africa in Cape Town last year.
After batting with his usual left-handed stance for 32 balls, Warner decided to become a right-handed batsman, helping raise quite a few eyebrows. Son after that moment, he smashed Riders’ part-time off-spinner Chris Gayle for a six in the first ball after the switch.

Warner lofted Gayle straight over the bowler’s head and over the ropes, sending the crowd and social media into a tizzy. Warner didn’t stop there as he paddle-swept the next ball to a boundary. He also played a reverse sweep and collected another boundary in the last ball of the 19th over.
David finished the game with an unbeaten 61 off 36 balls – 47 off 33 with a left-hander’s guard and 14 of 3 with a right-hander’s. The Australia star’s whirlwind knock helped the Sixers post 187 for 5 on the board.

Warner had struggled in his first BPL outing against Steve Smith-led Comilla Victorians but came back to the form with a 47-ball 59 in the second game and captained the Sixers to a five-run win over Chittagong Vikings on January 9. Nonetheless, Warner’s team is at the last spot on the seven-team table with just one win from four matches.
On the other hand, Steve Smith has successfully completed his elbow surgery and is expected to wear a brace for the next six weeks. It now seems his return to international cricket could be delayed. His ban is scheduled to get over in March but it remains to be seen how soon he can return to competitive cricket after his surgery.
