The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) cricket director Sanjay Bharadwaj has called off his hunger strike on Saturday evening after the new DDCA president Rajat Sharma met him.

On Thursday, Bhardwaj started an indefinite hunger strike at Feroz Shah Kotla (Delhi) to protest against the autocratic functioning of DDCA president Rajat Sharma. He also protested Sharma’s various appointments for the crucial roles as he claimed that there were some violations of conflict of interest rules.

Further, he wrote a letter to DDCA ombudsman justice (retired) Badar Durrez Ahmed on the violation of conflict of interest rules. In his letter, the DDCA President Rajat Sharma himself; CIC members Virender Sehwag, Aakash Chopra and Rahul Sanghvi; Gautam Gambhir – the special invitee to the CIC; senior selection committee members Amit Bhandari (chairman) and Sukhwinder Singh; junior selection committee member Mayank Tehlan etc have been accused for violating the conflict of interest rules.

On Saturday afternoon, Sharma arrived at the Feroz Shah Kotla to meet the secretaries of the DDCA-affiliated clubs. But the secretaries denied to meet with Sharma and one of them told him, “There is a person on hunger strike. Go and meet him and resolve that issue first.”

Then Sharma met Bharadwaj in the office and it ran for around 20 minutes which ultimately has resolved the issues and helped Bhardwaj to call off the hunger strike.

Later, Bharadwaj told, “Yes, I have called off my hunger strike. Sharmaji came to the DDCA premises today and met me and assured me that the new constitution approved by the Supreme Court will be implemented before the cricket season begins. Apart from that, he told me that the teething conflict of interest cases against the cricketers would also be looked into. After the meeting, he offered me a glass of juice.”

Meanwhile, DDCA ombudsman has recently confirmed that he received multiple complaints about conflict of interest charges against its newly formed committee members.
