Veteran batsman AB de Villiers is named in South Africa’s squad for remaining three One-Day International matches against India. India is 3-0 up in the ongoing six-match series, where hosts suffered from inexperienced middle-order in all three games.

However, De Villiers’ availability is underline for the fourth ODI in Johannesburg.

He missed first three games due to a finger injury, which he sustained during the third Test at Wanderers. His absence created a big hole in their batting order, which India’s wrist-spinners exposed badly. His availability will be assessed once team gathers in Johannesburg for the Pink ODI.

Should de Villiers be passed fit, he would provide a much-needed confidence boost to a batting unit that has had no answer to the twin spin threat of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. The pair has taken 21 wickets in the series at a scarcely believable average of 9.05.

Regular skipper Faf du Plessis and wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock added the injury woes for Proteas, which left their batting order quite vulnerable. Thus, they will be testing some new players in the series like Lungi Ngidi, Heinrich Klaasen and Khaya Zondo.

India is 3-0 up in the series and they can’t lose series from here on. However, they will be eyeing to seal the deal in Johannesburg.
