Former Chennai Super Kings fast bowler Deepak Chahar recently shared a humorous exchange with legendary captain MS Dhoni ahead of the 19th season of the Indian Premier League, offering fans a glimpse into their light-hearted relationship. Chahar, who spent seven seasons with CSK under Dhoni’s leadership, moved to the Mumbai Indians during the IPL 2025 mega auction, where he was signed for ₹9.25 crore. Despite switching franchises, the pacer still shares a strong bond with his former captain.

During a recent Instagram Live interaction with fans, Chahar revealed a funny conversation he had with Dhoni after watching videos from India’s celebrations following the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 triumph. Dhoni was present at the Narendra Modi Stadium when India secured their third T20 World Cup title and became the first team to successfully defend the trophy.
Recalling the conversation, Chahar said he had called Dhoni to say he missed him and the CSK dressing room while watching the celebrations.

At 44, Dhoni is expected to manage his workload carefully, and there are discussions that Sanju Samson could take on more responsibilities behind the stumps if required. Dhoni’s IPL 2025 campaign was modest by his lofty standards. In 13 innings, the CSK icon scored 196 runs at an average of 24.5 with a strike rate below 140. While the numbers hinted at the challenges of age, Dhoni’s leadership, experience and presence in the dressing room remain invaluable for the five-time champions.
