The BCCI on Thursday announced India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming two-Test home series against West Indies. Shubman Gill will continue as captain, having led India to a 2-2 draw in England, while Ravindra Jadeja will serve as his deputy in the absence of Rishabh Pant, who is recovering from a toe fracture sustained during the England tour. The squad features two wicketkeeper-batters, Dhruv Jurel and N. Jagadeesan.

India’s pace spearhead and world No. 1 bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been included in the squad and is expected to play both Tests. Senior batter Shreyas Iyer, currently on a six-month break from red-ball cricket, has been left out. Announcing the squad, BCCI chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar said, “Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is ready and keen to play both Tests against West Indies.”
The selectors have also made some notable changes, dropping Karun Nair and Abhimanyu Easwaran while including Devdutt Padikkal for the series.

Speaking on Nair’s exclusion, Agarkar said, “We expected more from Karun Nair; it cannot be just one innings. Padikkal offers more consistency. Ideally, we would like to give 15-20 chances to everyone, but circumstances don’t allow it.” On Shreyas Iyer’s absence, he added, “Shreyas is a senior player and was captain for India A as well. We’re trying to develop leadership qualities in multiple players. Unfortunately, he is unavailable due to fitness, but we want him playing as soon as possible.”
