In the high-voltage IPL 2025 clash between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Dewald Brevis stole the spotlight with a stunning counterattack that turned the tide in CSK’s favour. The young South African, often dubbed “Baby AB” for his explosive style, smashed a scintillating 52 off just 25 balls, laced with four boundaries and four towering sixes.

Walking in at a pressure-filled moment with CSK reeling at 56/4 inside the powerplay, Brevis didn’t take long to shift the momentum. His fireworks began in the 11th over when he took on Vaibhav Arora and dismantled the bowler with sheer aggression. The over began with a massive six down the ground, followed by two consecutive fours that signalled his intent. He didn’t stop there—two more towering sixes and a boundary capped off a 30-run over, bringing up his maiden IPL half-century in style.

However, his entertaining knock came to an end shortly after reaching his fifty, falling to Varun Chakaravarthy. Despite the dismissal, Brevis’ blitz had already set the tone for the chase.

Interestingly, before that expensive over, Vaibhav Arora had started well, picking up a wicket in his opening over while conceding just 8 runs. But Brevis’ assault undid all the early good work.

In the end, CSK clinched a thrilling win with just two balls to spare. Needing 8 runs in the final over, it was the ever-reliable MS Dhoni who once again showcased his finishing flair, launching the very first ball for a six to seal the deal. With Brevis setting the stage and Dhoni finishing the job, it was a night to remember for the Super Kings.
