Dewald Brevis is set to miss Chennai Super Kings’ IPL 2026 opener against Rajasthan Royals on March 30 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, dealing an early setback to the five-time champions. Head coach Stephen Fleming confirmed that Brevis suffered a side injury during training and is currently undergoing rehabilitation.

The franchise later issued an official update, wishing the young batter a speedy recovery. Known as ‘Baby AB’ for his explosive style, Dewald Brevis had been expected to play a key role in CSK’s middle order this season.

Dewald Brevis had shown promising form in IPL 2025, scoring 225 runs in six matches, including two half-centuries. His aggressive approach stood out, as he struck at 180 and smashed 13 fours and 17 sixes, quickly becoming a fan favourite after joining as a replacement player.

His absence also impacts CSK’s overseas balance. Dewald Brevis is currently their only specialist overseas batter, with the squad otherwise featuring a mix of bowlers and all-rounders, including Matt Henry, Spencer Johnson, Matthew Short, Jamie Overton, Zak Foulkes, Akeal Hosein, and Noor Ahmad.
With the season just beginning, CSK will hope Brevis recovers quickly, as his power-hitting ability could prove vital in the matches ahead.
