The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE and Oman. Ravichandran Ashwin received a surprise call-up in the squad while Yuzvendra Chahal has been left out. Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni has been named the mentor of Team India for the entirety of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021.
The squad is loaded with multiple spinners. Axar Patel is another surprise selection in the final-15 while Kuldeep Yadav also failed to make the cut. “Spinners who bowl quick was our top priority, so we went with Rahul Chahar,” the Chief selector said on Chahal’s omission.
Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan, who led the Indian team in Sri Lanka recently, couldn’t find his way into the squad. Whereas Shreyas Iyer along with Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur are named in the reserves for the tournament.
The most shocking exclusion can be considered as that of the veteran leg-spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal. He lost his place as the team went with Rahul Chahar and the mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy. Considering this, Dhanashree Verma couldn’t control her emotions. She went on to her Instagram handle and posted a story there.
Her main tagline was, “Ye Waqt Bhi Guzar Jaega”. Here is the Instagram story she posted:
However, this squad can’t be considered as a final one as the changes can be made based on the performances on the second phase of the IPL 2021. Yuzvendra still has the chance to find his spot based on his IPL performance. He has so far bagged 4 wickets from 7 games during Phase 1. With the matches being played on turning tracks, it would be exciting to see if he manages to turn his fate.
