Shreyas Iyer once again showcased his class with the bat in the ongoing IPL 2025, playing a commanding knock for Punjab Kings against Lucknow Super Giants at the picturesque HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. Walking in at number four after a shaky start, Iyer anchored the innings with poise and authority.

With Punjab Kings losing two quick wickets inside the powerplay, Iyer had a task on his hands. The scoreboard read 50/2, and the pressure was mounting. But the skipper remained unflustered. Initially cautious, he gradually found his rhythm, rotating the strike and punishing loose deliveries. His calm presence allowed Prabhsimran Singh to play freely, and together, they stitched a valuable partnership that stabilised the innings.

Just as Iyer was cruising towards yet another half-century, having already registered one in the previous game, his fluent stay was cut short at 45. Digvesh Rathi, who has been making a name for himself as a clever operator in the middle overs, outfoxed the Punjab skipper with a delivery that held slightly on the surface. Iyer attempted to guide it over point, but the ball took the outer half of the bat and flew straight to Mayank Yadav, who completed a simple catch.

Rathi, who has developed a bit of a reputation for his flamboyant celebrations, pulled out his signature “notebook” move once again—this time scribbling something on his palm before gesturing towards the pavilion, much to the amusement of fans and commentators.

Despite missing out on a fifty, Shreyas Iyer’s performance reaffirmed his consistency this season. His dominance over spinners has been particularly striking—scoring 142 runs off 82 balls with only one dismissal, at an impressive strike rate of 163.21. It’s this maturity and form that continue to make him a pillar in Punjab’s batting lineup.
