Karthik’s last appearance for the national team came in 2019 when he played in the World Cup 2019 in England. He played in the semi-final against New Zealand, which India lost and got knocked out of the tournament.

On the other hand, Dipika Pallikal last played on the tour in 2018. The 30-year-old, speaking to India Today last year, had expressed her disappointment at squash not making it to the Olympics in 2024.

“FRUSTRATING. I think we all got to a point where all we could do was laugh. There are some ridiculous sports in the Olympics and if those sports deserve to be part of the Olympics then so do we,” Dipika Pallikal told indiatoday.in.

“But I think a lot of good things have happened to our sport because of the bid. It has grown leaps and bounds as a sport. So I think we as a sport have done our work and homework. If the Olympics don’t want to have a sport like squash then it’s their loss.”
