Direct Hit From Mohammed Shami Sends Back Surya Kumar Yadav

The Kings Xi Punjab (KXIP) fast bowler, Mohammed Shami showed off his target-hitting skills during the ongoing 13th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Thursday (October 1) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Earlier in the day, KXIP skipper KL Rahul won the toss and asked Rohit Sharma and his men to bat first.

The Mumbai side got off to an awful start after the KXIP pacer, Sheldon Cottrell dismissed opener Quinton de Kock for a duck in the very first over of the match itself which meant that Suryakumar Yadav had to join Rohit Sharma in the middle quite early in the innings.

Yadav started off his innings at lightning pace when he smashed back-to-back-boundaries of Cottrell in latter’s second over, but his run-scoring chases soon came to an end when Shami’s darting throw rattled the stumps to secure a key breakthrough for KXIP.

In an attempt to take a quick single, Suryakumar and Rohit got into a misunderstanding which left a small window for Mohammed Shami to pick up the ball and produce a classy direct hit to dismiss the MI batsman for just 10 runs, reducing MI to 21/2.

Rahul won the toss and opted to field. They included Krishnappa Gowtham in place of Murugan Ashwin, while Mumbai Indians made no changes to their squad. Eventually, the Mumbai-based franchise reached the total of 191/4 in their quota of 20 overs with the help of a brilliant fifty from Rohit (70 off 45 balls). For KXIP, Shami and Sheldon Cottrell took a wicket each while teh latter gave away just 20 run in his quota of four overs.
