West Indies cricketers Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard engaged in a light-hearted banter during a car ride together following the conclusion of the IPL 2023 final. Bravo, who served as the bowling coach for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the tournament, expressed his belief that CSK is the most successful franchise in IPL history.
Bravo had a successful stint as a coach as CSK clinched their fifth IPL title, joining the Mumbai Indians as the team with the most championship wins. His impact as the bowling coach was evident as CSK’s young and inexperienced bowling attack thrived under his partnership with Eric Simmons.
The Super Kings witnessed outstanding performances from emerging talents like 20-year-old Matheesha Pathirana and rookie Tushar Deshpande, who emerged as leading wicket-takers for the MS Dhoni-led side. Dwayne Bravo celebrated their success with great enthusiasm, maintaining his strong bond with the Super Kings.

In contrast, Pollard retired from playing in the IPL at the start of the season and joined the Mumbai Indians as their batting coach. Despite MI’s previous success, securing their fifth IPL title in 2020, they fell short in the playoffs this season with an injury-hit squad.
Pollard initiated the banter by asking Bravo about his feelings on winning five IPL titles, teasing him that he had been experiencing that sensation for three years. Pollard was an integral part of all five Mumbai Indians’ title victories, solidifying his status as one of their legends. Bravo countered by mentioning CSK’s two Champions League titles, asserting that the Super Kings are the most successful IPL franchise, which Pollard did not appreciate.

Dwayne Bravo playfully referred to his impressive tally of 17 trophies in T20 tournaments, reminding Pollard that he had two fewer titles. However, Pollard cheekily pointed out that Bravo had been playing cricket since the early 2000s alongside legendary West Indian bowlers such as Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh.
“Speaking of franchise cricket, I have 17 trophies. How many do you have?” Bravo asked. Pollard admitted that he hadn’t kept count, prompting Bravo to state that Pollard only had 15 trophies, emphasizing that he now possesses a trophy as a coach as well. “Put some respect on my name, please,” Dwyane Bravo playfully added as the banter continued.
