The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has invited George Garton into England Ashes squad to cover injured bowler Jake Ball in Australia. Ball injured his ankle during team’s four-day warm-up game in Adelaide Oval.

On the second day of the warm-up game, Ball collapse into his run-up while he was in his fourth over. Afterwards, he didn’t take the field for rest of the game. The scans forced him to stay away from the field for at least one week as it shows a damage to his ankle.

Garton has played nine first-class matches so far, where he managed only 23 wickets at an average of 36.47 while playing for England Lions and Sussex.

A statement from the visiting team has come out, which says, “The England medical team will assess the injury over the next seven days and he will play no further part in the Adelaide match. National selectors have called up England Lions and Sussex left-arm seamer George Garton as cover in Townsville for the final warm-up match.”

England’s preparations for the Ashes have been halted badly from several injuries. The list of injured players starts with star all-rounder Moeen Ali and lanky pacer Steven Finn, where latter has been sent back to the home for a surgery. England is yet to overcome from the setback of ace all-rounder Benjamin Stokes, who is going through some legal allegation from Avon and Somerset Police and has been suspended by ECB.
