Ekana Stadium Lucknow to host DD matches in IPL 11

Lucknow’s Ekana International stadium is all set for the first real examination after successfully hosting domestic tournaments like Duleep and Ranji Trophy. The newly build stadium will be hosting world’s most successful cricket league termed IPL. This will be confirmed after an inspection by International Management Group(IMG) who are expected to visit the stadium in the first week of February.

It is Delhi Daredevils, who will be playing some of their home matches at this very venue during the 11th season of the Indian Premier League.

BCCI’s senior officers have already praised the facilities of the stadium when it hosted the domestic matches earlier. Considering the same, things almost look confirm for Ekana International stadium hosting the IPL matches. Lucknowites have never seen such high profile cricket matches in the city before, and their wish might just get fulfilled this year.

IPL’s commissioner Rajeev Shukla visited the stadium on Friday. He spent almost 1.5 hrs in the stadium and inspected the facilities. He confirmed the news of IMG visiting the stadium in the first week of February to stadium’s management.

The Stadium is renowned to be the second biggest stadium in term of capacity around the nation after Kolkata’s iconic Eden Gardens. It has a capacity of around 50,000 people while Eden Gardens has availability of 66,350 fans after a renovation process.

The auction of the upcoming IPL season will take place on January 27-28 in Bengaluru, where every team will try to buy a balanced squad for the upcoming seasons.
