It was an unforgettable night for Indian cricket as the women in blue scripted history by lifting their maiden ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 title. At the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, emotions ran high as India defeated South Africa by 52 runs in a pulsating final that went down as one of the greatest moments in the sport’s history. Defending a challenging total of 298 runs, India faced early pressure as South African skipper Laura Wolvaardt launched a stunning counterattack, scoring a valiant century that kept her team in the contest. But India’s spinners soon turned the tide. Deepti Sharma, who had already made her mark with a gritty fifty in the first innings, produced a magical spell to claim five wickets, including the crucial dismissal of Wolvaardt.

The moment Harmanpreet Kaur caught Nadine de Klerk to seal the win, the stadium erupted in euphoria. The Indian captain dropped to her knees, tears of joy streaming down her face—a reflection of years of perseverance and heartbreak finally rewarded.
