After the end of the limited-overs series, the visitors India will now play the long five-match Test series against the hosts England in their ongoing England tour, starting from August 1.

Till the date, India has played a total of 57 Tests against England on the England soil where they have only won six times and lost 30 times and drawn 21 times. Before the beginning of the upcoming big Test series, we will look at India’s all the Test match victories on the English soil.

2014: at Lord’s – India won by 95 runs

It was the second Test of the five-match Test series at Lord’s where India won by 95 runs and led the series by 0-1. While the English skipper Alastair Cook sent the Indian team to bat first, Indian top-order batsmen failed to make a good start. No.5 batsman, Ajinkya Rahane’s (103) brilliant century helped the Indian team to make a fighting total of 295 runs while the no.9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar (36 runs) was only the other batsman in that innings to reach the 30-run mark. English pacer James Anderson (4/60) picked up four wickets in that innings.

In reply, England had a week start as their four of top five batsmen were dismissed before reaching the 20-run mark. With the help of Gary Ballance’s century (110) and the lower middle-order Liam Plunkett’s unbeaten half-century (55*), England scored 319 runs and led by 24 runs. Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar (6/82) picked up six wickets in that innings.

In the second innings, opener Murali Vijay’s brilliant 95 and some fighting lower-order knocks by Ravindra Jadeja (68) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (52), India scored 342 runs and put a tough target of 319 runs in the front of the English team.

Ishant Sharma’s dangerous spell dashed the English batting line-up as the hosts were bundled out for 223 runs. While Sharma took seven wickets as his bowling figure was 23-6-74-7, Joe Root (66) was the only English batsman in that innings to reach the 40-run mark. While India won by 95 runs, Ishant won the Player of the Match award.
