2007: at Trent Bridge – India won by 7 wickets
It was the second Test of three-match Test series at Trent Bridge where India won by 7 wickets. Indian skipper Rahul Dravid won the toss and decided to field first which proved a successful decision as the Indian bowlers destroyed the English batting line-up for just 198 runs. While opener Alastair Cook scored the highest runs in that innings of 43 runs, Indian pacer Zaheer Khan (4/59) was the best bowler by picking up four wickets.
Indian openers Dinesh Karthik (77) and Wasim Jaffer (62) provided a very good start with the 147-run opening partnership. That good start was perfectly carried by Sachin Tendulkar (91), Sourav Ganguly (79) and VVS Laxman (54) as India managed to score 481 and provided a big lead of 283 runs at the end of the first innings fights. English spinner Monty Panesar (4/101) picked up four wickets.
English batsmen fought hard as the opener Andrew Strauss (55), skipper Michael Vaughan (124) and Paul Collingwood (63) played 50+ knocks but failed to make any surprise as they were bundled out for 355 runs and put an easy 73 runs target in front of the visitors. Zaheer Khan once again troubled the English top-order batting as he picked up five wickets and ended with the figure of 27-10-75-5.
In reply, India lost three wickets to reach the target while Chris Tremlett (3/12) picked up all the three wickets in that innings. India won this game by 7 wickets and led the series by 0-1. Zaheer Khan won the Player of the Match award who picked up total nine wickets in this game.
