England have named a 16-player squad for the three-match ODI series against India, with Sussex all-rounder James Coles earning his maiden call-up in the 50-over format. The selectors have also recalled Jofra Archer, while Josh Tongue has been included despite still waiting for his ODI debut.

Coles has been rewarded for a strong run in domestic cricket and now has the chance to make his England debut in a high-profile home series. Archer returns to the ODI setup for the first time since facing the West Indies in November 2025, adding proven pace and experience to a squad that England hope will sharpen their white-ball edge ahead of the 2027 World Cup cycle.

Fast bowlers Gus Atkinson and Saqib Mahmood are also back in the mix after missing England’s ODI tour of Sri Lanka earlier this year. Compared with that squad, England have made four changes, with Archer, Atkinson, Mahmood and Coles coming in for Brydon Carse, Zak Crawley, Jamie Overton and Luke Wood. Harry Brook will continue to captain the side as England build towards the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.

There has also been talk that Jacob Bethell could open the batting alongside Ben Duckett, giving England another left-right option at the top. With Brook already leading the ODI side and also seen as a contender for England’s future Test captaincy, this series offers an early look at how the national team is shaping its white-ball core.

The ODI series against India begins at Edgbaston on Tuesday, July 14, before moving to Sophia Gardens on Thursday, July 16 and concluding at Lord’s on Sunday, July 19. England’s squad announcement has added extra intrigue to a contest that arrives after a five-match T20I series between the two sides.
