The fiery English pacer, Jofra Archer made his international debut for England in the bilateral series against Pakistan after which he was also featured in the national squad for the 2019 ICC World Cup. Throughout the tournament, most of the batsmen were finding it difficult to handle him, but his biggest challenge came during super over of the final against New Zealand at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London as he was trusted by the skipper Eoin Morgan to bowl the Super Over.
Though James Neesham smashed him for a six, Archer didn’t allow the Blackcaps to win the World Cup. Recalling the same, Eoin Morgan said that he has no doubt in choosing Jofra for the over.

During a recent chat on ICC podcast titled ‘CWC Rewind’, while having a chat with Ian Bishop and Nasser Hussain, Morgan said, “I think the obvious answer to choosing Jofra to bowl the super over is that he is one of the best death bowlers in the world. Guys are exposed to perform under high-pressure situations and Jofra has proved at the IPL, Big Bash that he can deliver under pressure.”
He further added, “He had played only a dozen of ODI games at that stage, every challenge he had come under, he had thrived to perform in such situations.”
Morgan also explained why the England team management decided to go with Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes for the one-over eliminator.
Explaining the same, Morgan said, “The last couple of balls in the 50-over action, me and Trevor had discussed as to what we will do if the match goes to super over. The wicket was so hard to middle the ball for the batsmen, so we thought Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes were the best batsmen to send to the middle.”

After the scores in the mandatory game of 50 overs were tied, the Super Over also resulted in a draw. In the end, the Three Lions edged past the Kiwis on account of hitting more boundaries.
