Former England skipper, Eoin Morgan, and Chris Gayle saw the funny side of the crazy final over scenes from Lucknow Super Giants’ win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in an IPL 2023 match on Monday, April 10. Morgan said scenes would’ve been way different if Harshal Patel successfully ran Ravi Bishnoi out for straying out of the crease in the final delivery of a tense chase at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

While chasing a target of 213 runs, after the dismissals of power hitters like, Marcus Stoinis,  Nicholas Pooran, and Ayush Badoni, LSG needed 5 runs with 3 wickets in hand. However, Harshal Patel got the wickets of Mark Wood and Jaydev Unadkat and brought down the equation to 1 from 1 delivery. RCB skipper, Faf du Plessis brought the field in for the final delivery as there were tense faces in both camps.

Harshal Patel attempted to run out Ravi Bishnoi, who left the crease before the bowler completed his delivery action. However, Patel failed to whip the bails and missed the opportunity by a whisker. Harshal ran in again to bowl the final delivery but chose not to focus on running out Bishnoi at the non-striker’s end even as the LSG tail-ender ran out of the crease early again.

Speaking to Jio Cinema after the thrilling finish, Eoin Morgan said Harshal was probably stunned to see how far Bishnoi had wandered out of the crease when he was running in to bowl the final delivery. He said, “Not for one moment, do I think it was a conscious effort. Harshal Patel was running in and must have been in shock to see how far away he (Bishoi was) and missed the run-out. But if he had run him out, there would have been a pitch invasion.”

He further added, “It would have been Kohli-Gambhir gloves on. Yeah, I don’t know what he (Bishnoi) was doing. Something in his head should have told him to stay in the crease ‘you know what, he could run me out’. When the bowlers are at the crease, anything can happen.”

Meanwhile, Chris Gayle, who was not able to control his laughter when he was watching the replay of the final delivery, said Harshal could have run Bishnoi out the second time when the non-striker was straying out of the crease.

Chris Gayle sad, “Yes, he could have double whammy him again, tried the run-out the second time. Like I said, they were always going to run in the last ball, unfortunately, DK fumbled.”

LSG moved to the top of the points table after their 3rd win in 4 matches while RCB slipped out of the top 5.
