England limited-overs captain, Eoin Morgan considers himself lucky to be continued as the skipper despite the horrible performance of the team during the 2015 ICC World Cup. The Englishmen were knocked out of the league stages during the 2015 World Cup as they didn’t even qualified for the quarter-finals. During an ICC podcast titled “CWC Rewind” with Ian Bishop and Nasser Hussain and it was then that he expressed his thought about the 2015 World Cup.
Morgan explained, “The most significant appointment following the 2015 World Cup was the appointment of Andrew Strauss as the Director of Cricket. He recognized the need for significant change within the group,” Morgan said during the interaction. I was kept on as skipper of the side and I do feel lucky to be retained as the skipper of the side, Trevor Bayliss was appointed as the coach and we started playing an aggressive brand of cricket and that was very exciting for all of us.”

During the interaction, Morgan also termed his relationship with the coach Trevor Bayliss and it enabled the side to perform well.
Explaining the same, Morgan said, “I thought the relationship with Bayliss worked really well before he was appointed as the coach of England, we had spent some time with Kolkata Knight Riders, building the relationship with him did not take long. Once we worked out what the goal was, it was about putting the strategy in place, Bayliss was ready to take the backseat.”
After the 2015 World Cup, England decided to go with an aggressive approach in ODIs and T20Is and went on to become a very aggressive side in the format. The team management had decided to pick white-ball specialists and then they witnessed the benefits of the same when the team won the 2019 World Cup.
During the interaction with Morgan and Bishop, Nasser Hussain gave a lot of credits to Morgan and Bayliss for maintaining an attacking mindset in the dressing room and for not letting anyone doubt their approach.

Under Morgan’s captaincy, England went on to defeat New Zealand in the finals of the 2019 World Cup on the basis of the boundary-countback rule.
