Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s much-anticipated India debut will have to wait a little longer after the 15-year-old was once again left out of the playing XI for the second T20I against Ireland in Belfast on Sunday, June 28. The teenager, who had arrived on the Ireland tour with huge hype around his maiden international appearance, has now missed out on both matches in the series, leaving fans disappointed after expecting him to finally wear the India jersey.

India, meanwhile, handed debut caps to Suryansh Shedge and Prince Yadav for the series decider, but there was still no place for Sooryavanshi in the final XI. With the left-hander on the sidelines again, this became the first time in the series that he remained part of the squad without getting a game. For many followers of Indian cricket, the decision came as a surprise, especially given the excitement generated around his name over the past few weeks.

A different section of fans directed their frustration at the decision to retain Tilak Varma, suggesting that Sooryavanshi should have been given a chance ahead of the vice-captain.
