Former Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir was honored with the fourth highest civilian award of India, Padma Shri, at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Gautam received this honor from the President of India Mr. Ramnath Kovind. Gambhir announced his retirement from cricket in December 2018 from all form of cricket.

The award has not changed Gambhir, the person it seems. The cricketer took to Twitter moments after the ceremony and posted something, which is very uncharacteristic of the ‘ever-so-serious’ Gambhir we know.

It is refreshing to see the hilarious side of Gambhir when he says he is just not worried about the cannon that is placed behind him in the picture. He hilariously says the same is the reason that he gets fired at home every day.

Gautam took to the microblogging site and wrote, “Back to reality with a LOUD thuddddddd!!!! Padmashri with his Sri Sri Srimati @natashagambhir2 Don’t worry about the तोप in the background, I get fired every day at home #PADMASHRIGAUTAMGAMBHIR #PadmaShriAward #Padmashree.”

He will always be remembered for his pivotal knocks in India’s World T20 win in 2007 and the 2011 World Cup title triumph. He was the highest scorer in both games. In the 2007 World T20 final against Pakistan, his knock of 75 runs gave India a fighting total. He was seen at this match-winning best during the final of 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka, where he rescued India’s ship from sinking and scored a match-defining 97 runs in the run chase.

Meanwhile, the 37-year-old thanked all the supporters of the Indian cricket team for constantly supporting them and tributed his Padma Shri award to them.

Earlier, in a press note from the Ministry of Home Affairs, a list of the 112 persons honored with the Padma Awards was released. Four persons have been awarded the Padma Vibhushan, whereas 14 have been bestowed with Padma Bhushan and the rest 94 will receive the Padma Shri. The first set or lot of Padma awards was given on 11th of March in which honorable President Mr. Kovind had presented one Padma Vibhushan, eight Padma Bhushan and forty-six Padma Shri Awards.
