We all have witnessed something new in our former captain MS Dhoni, who looked calmer than before and less bold as well during the Sri Lanka tour, where he played the role of second fiddle throughout the ODI series and remained unbeaten in five-match ODI series.

Despite his good touch with the bat, Dhoni’s batting order is unsettled and several questions have been raised so far over his batting position. In the lone defeat of Team India during recently concluded ODI series in Bengaluru, he came out with bat at seven.

Hardik Pandya is getting some regular chances at the top of the middle-order, which pushed Dhoni’s position deeper. However, former Indian coach Lalchand Rajput, who was assigned to the team during 2007 World T20 triumph, believes that former captain is the best finisher and he can bat anywhere according to the demand of the situation.

“There is no fixed batting position as Dhoni can bat at any position for Team India. India should use him as per the match situation as he is India’s best finisher. If Dhoni coming above or below Pandya helps India, that should be done accordingly,” said Lalchand Rajput.

The debate of Dhoni’s batting position has been discussed on several occasions since January 2016, when he himself revealed that he wants to bat at the top order. Meanwhile, he came at four during New Zealand One-Day series in October last year.

If India wants to strengthen their chances in the World Cup 2019 in England, they have to use both Dhoni and Pandya wisely, who have the ability to come out with all guns blazing at the death overs.
