The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are one of the most successful teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They have lifted the IPL trophy for a long time before they signed Gautam Gambhir. Gaut had helped them get their hands on the glorious IPL trophy not once, but twice. He was one of the most inspiring figures in the team and played a crucial role in the success.
However, the southpaw, who has smashed the highest number of fours in IPL till date decided to part his ways with the franchise for the upcoming season. He desired to get back to his home team Delhi Daredevils (DD), and the KKR management respected his decision. Gambhir will be leading DD this year but at the same time, he left a big hole in the KKR side to be filled.

Talking about the new skipper, Sourav said, “Consider any great captain, Steve Waugh or Stephen Fleming, for example, you start at one particular stage in your career. And when they did start, it was based on a gut feeling of the team management. And then you see how far the team performs in the next six, seven matches of the season. But for KKR, one thing they have to do is that the amount of stability they had given to Gautam Gambhir, they have to do the same with the new captain so that he can be free in making his choices.”
Australia’s hard-hitting batsman Chris Lynn is also in contention for the role, but his injury woes might come into play as well. Even when coach Jacques Kallis was asked about Lynn’s possibility of taking up the role, he replied, “Yes, he is probably one of the candidates but we haven’t yet decided about it. Maybe, we will get to know in the next couple of weeks.”
