Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir once again talked about Virat Kohli’s captaincy as Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) still is trying to get a single win in the ongoing Indian Premier League. Prior to the competition, Gambhir criticized Kohli’s captaincy publicly. He further expressed that Virat Kohli should think himself lucky as he is still the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore after failing to win a single title from the beginning.

However, in the first six matches of this season so far, Bangalore has failed to open their account yet and it’s becoming difficult for them to qualify for the playoffs. Their batsmen and bowlers both failed to perform consistently which cost them consecutive losses. Their competition started with getting bundled out within 70 against Chennai Super Kings. Then they conceded 231 against Sunrisers Hyderabad and then they failed to defend 205 against Kolkata Knight Riders.

While talking about Kohli, Gambhir ‘apprentice’ him as a captain and has lots to learn.

“While Virat Kohli the batsman is an absolute master, Virat Kohli the captain is an apprentice. He has loads to learn. Rather than blaming the bowlers, he should take the blame on himself,” he wrote this in his column for The Times of India.

“I would start with last year’s auction where they messed up. Why did they go for Marcus Stoinis and Nathan Coulter-Nile if they knew these players were not available from the start? At a small venue like the Chinnaswamy, where the wicket is flat, I would have gone with an out-and-out fast bowler,” he further explained.

Gambhir further explained several points from their defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders. He again said that Kohli has a lot of things to learn as a captain. However, Royal Challengers Bangalore need to change their game plans as soon as possible to win their next game.
