It was a forgettable day at the office for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday, in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 when they only manage to register the score of 84 runs in their 20 overs against some brilliant bowling from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and bagged some embarrassing records to their name. Soon after KKR’s loss to RCBthough former Indian opener, Gautam Gambhir was at the receiving end of all the trolls on social media.

Gautam Gambhir led KKR

The reason for the same was his comment on Star Sports ahead of the match. Gambhir had accepted that there is no rivalry between KKR and RCB as the Kolkata franchise has won two titles while the Virat Kohli-led team is yet to win the silverware. In a way he had backed the Eoin Morgan-led side to defeat RCB and strengthen their place in the playoffs.

But as soon as the action began, KKR suddenly was seen wanting on 14/4. Despite Eoin Morgan trying his best scoring 30 runs, KKR could only post 84 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs. It was also the lowest total in the history of IPL for any team after batting for 20 overs.

The chase was never going to be difficult for RCB and KKR bowlers didn’t show any intent to defend it either. Aaron Finch and Devdutt Padikkal added 46 runs for the opening wicket after which Virat Kohli and Gurkeerat Singh Mann made sure that Bangalore gets over the line in the 14th over itself. This big win propelled RCB to the second position in the points table while KKR is now left with doing a lot of work in their last four matches of the season.

However, the way KKR played, Gautam Gambhir’s own words came to bite him and he was soon trending on social media. He was hilariously trolled for his pre-match comments and it was meme fest on Twitter.
