Former India opener, Gautam Gambhir has been at loggerheads with former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi on a plethora of occasions. Be it in the cricket field or social media, the duo never seem to get along at all. And Gambhir wants to keep it like that saying that it is nice to get personal at times.

It all started during Pakistan’s tour of India in 2007. During the third ODI in Kanpur, Gambhir was engaged in a verbal banter with Afridi while batting. The southpaw, who was struggling a bit to score runs, tried to irritate the opponent bowler and the duo had an exchange of words. It turned worse when Gautam collided into Afridi leaving the Pakistani cricketer furious.

It continued off the field as well on social media, as both shower curses on each other mainly on the Kashmir issue. Meanwhile, the Twitter banter started after Afridi launched a cruel attack on Gambhir in his autobiography earlier this year calling him someone has an attitude problem. Gautam also hurled back at him and is happy to have things like that. In an interview with the Indian Express, Gambhir remarked some fights get personal and it is nice to take things personally at times.

Gambhir explained, “Some fights do get personal and there is nothing wrong with that. It has been like that for a very long time. Sometimes it is nice to get personal with someone.”

Gautam Gambhir, who decided to hang his boots from international cricket last year also said that he has never enjoyed a good relationship with Shahid Afridi and has no regrets over that. The cricketer-turned-politician has amassed over 10000 international runs and played a key role in the 2011 ICC World Cup.

“There is a bit of history to that (the relationship with Afridi), I am fine with that,” he concluded.
