There are certain chances that the fans will witness a different middle-order of Team India for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka at home as a few below-par performers could be dropped from the squad. The likes of Hanuma Vihari and Shreyas Iyer are waiting for getting chances on a consistent basis and could very well return into the final XI in the home series. Sharing his take on the middle-order, former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has vouched for the consistent inclusion of Hanuma Vihari now.

Gautam Gambhir said, “Hanuma Vihari should get the first opportunity now. He should be backed as much as Ajinkya Rahane was backed, if not more than at least for 2-3 series.”

Hanuma Vihari, who has been part of the Indian Test squad since 2018, has played 13 Test matches so far. He made his comeback in the 2nd Test of the series against South Africa but had to make way for Virat Kohli in the series decider as the team management backed senior Ajinkya Rahane. The former deputy skipper might be dropped going ahead.

Shreyas Iyer, who made his debut against New Zealand in the previous home series, wasn’t included in the playing XI in the rainbow nation and is likely to be back in the home series. He kicked off his Test career with a century against New Zealand and has 202 runs in 2 matches. It remains to be seen if Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara manage to retain their spots.

India host Sri Lanka in two-match Test series in February-March. The 1st Test is scheduled to be played from February 25 in Bengaluru while Mohali will host the 2nd Test from March 5. The visiting side will also play 3 T20Is on the tour.
