After a great Test debut in last October, Aaron Finch’s Test career has quickly faded away as he seemed out of touch in the ongoing home Test series against the visiting side India. While he has been dropped from the playing XI of the final Test of the series at Sydney, Glenn Maxwell hopes that it doesn’t finish Finch’s Test career.

In the ongoing home Test series against India, the Australian opener Finch scored only 97 runs in six innings with the average of just 16.16. Before he was dropped from the Sydney Test, Finch scored 0, 11, 50, 25, 8 and 3 respectively.

However, Maxwell hopes that Finch can get another opportunity soon in Test cricket to prove himself in this format.

Maxwell recently told according to Cricket Country, “I hope that (being dropped) doesn’t finish Finch off as a Test cricketer and hopefully next time he gets an opportunity he can bat in a position that I think – and a lot of Australia thinks – he’s more accustomed to.”

While Finch mostly bats at the middle-order in the first-class cricket, he has been used as the opening batsman in the Test cricket. As he succeeded during his debutant Test tour in UAE in last October, Maxwell feels that Finch is a victim on that success.

Maxwell added, “He was probably a victim of his own success in the UAE. Having batted so well as an opener there it probably drove the Australia selectors and coaches to put him up there (against India) and I suppose that was fair enough. Hopefully at some stage he gets an opportunity to bat in the middle order and show the class he does have.”

When Maxwell was asked about his Test career, he admitted that he hasn’t impressed much to the selectors on his opportunities.

Maxwell said, “They (selectors) think that I’ve got enough opportunities to have shown what I’ve got in the Test arena, and they weren’t happy with what they saw. Look, if I can pile some more runs on at the back end of this summer who knows, but, yeah, it’s too hard to concentrate on anything too far ahead. They’ve picked their squad at the moment and I wish them all the best. I’ll be watching – I love watching the game – so I’ll be still watching them.”
