Gulam Bodi, who had played three limited-overs international games for South Africa, handed five years of jail on Friday after pleading guilty to eight charges of corruption. He had been banned for 20 years by the Cricket South Africa (CSA) for his association in fixing or his influence in matches in a 2015 domestic T20 competition. However, CSA said no fixtures were affected as all the plans were foiled.
Gulam Bodi, however, handed himself to the police last year and he was sentenced by a commercial crimes court in Pretoria. However, he requested for mercy after he was informed that he could be jailed for 15 years. Although it was delayed many times as his lawyer withdrew from the case due because of his lack of funds.

“It’s been a very big mistake in my life,” he said. “Cricket is something I love and know. I was a first-class cricketer for 18 years. You can’t just kiss that goodbye.”
When he was asked by the journalist in the early stages of his investigation that why he had done that, Bodi replied: “Cash in hand, brother, cash in hand.”
