Indian fast bowler Gurnoor Brar delivered a crucial breakthrough in the second ODI against New Zealand, dismissing Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips in the same over at Wellington on Saturday, November 7. Both wickets came through well-directed short-pitched deliveries as India continued to dominate the rain-affected contest, which was reduced to 47 overs per side.

Brar opened his account in the 20th over by dismissing New Zealand captain Tom Latham. The left-hander attempted to pull a short delivery outside off stump but failed to get the required connection. The ball went high towards deep square leg, where Naman Dhir completed a comfortable catch. Latham departed for seven runs off 22 deliveries.

Anshul Kamboj positioned himself at fine leg and completed a fine catch to give Brar his second wicket. Phillips returned to the pavilion without scoring after facing four deliveries. The double strike left New Zealand struggling at 53/5 after 20 overs.

Nabi then removed the other opener, Will Young, who managed just six runs off 17 deliveries. Anshul Kamboj added to New Zealand’s troubles by dismissing Henry Nicholls for 11 off 26 balls.
Brar’s double strike further strengthened India’s position, leaving the hosts struggling to build a competitive total. At the time of writing, New Zealand were 75/5 after 25 overs, with Daryl Mitchell batting on 33 off 63 deliveries and Mitchell Santner on 10 off 14 balls.
