Harbhajan Singh has disagreed with Ravi Shastri’s assessment of New Zealand star Rachin Ravindra. The left-handed batsman has impressed one and all with his performances in the ongoing ICC Men’s World Cup 2023. Harbhajan heaped praise on Ravindra and called him the future superstar of international cricket but refused to compare him with his former India teammate.

“He plays proper cricketing shots. Yuvraj Singh’s talent for these shots was amazing. His batting sense was very straightforward – he never played the ball from afar. He looked at playing it very straight, in the V. But Rachin Ravindra doesn’t have the flow that Yuvraj Singh had. Yuvraj Singh had a different flow, a different power. Rachin Ravindra doesn’t possess the same power, but he exhibits that form,” Harbhajan told Star Sports.

“He is a delight to watch and when you observe him play, you can’t imagine him getting out. Rachin Ravindra handles all types of bowling very well, whether it’s fast bowling or spin. He is still young and of Indian origin.

“However, coming to India and performing in the World Cup, making runs against such a formidable team, demonstrates his strong mentality. Based on what we have seen so far, Rachin is the future star of world cricket,” he added.

Harbhajan’s assessment of Ravindra is more realistic than Shastri’s. Ravindra is a talented batsman with a lot of potential, but he is still very young and inexperienced. Yuvraj Singh, on the other hand, was one of the greatest batsmen of all time. He had a unique batting style and a powerful presence at the crease.

It is unfair to compare Ravindra with Yuvraj at this stage in his career. Ravindra needs to be given time and space to develop. If he continues to work hard and perform at a high level, he could become a world-class batsman in the future.

However, it is important to remember that every player is different. Ravindra should not be burdened with the expectation of becoming another Yuvraj Singh. He should be allowed to develop his own game and make his own mark on international cricket.
