Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has heaped praise on teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, describing the 14-year-old as a rare talent with a fearless mindset. Speaking on JioStar on July 22, Harbhajan said the youngster is achieving something unprecedented at such a young age and believes Indian cricket has found a special player for the future.

Lauding Vaibhav’s fearless attitude, Harbhajan said modern-day youngsters are encouraged to express themselves freely without the fear of failure. He added that the Rajasthan Royals prodigy possesses exceptional confidence, something he rarely witnessed during his own playing career.

“No one has ever done what Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is doing today. He is an incredible talent, and I don’t think I have seen or come across someone like him,” Harbhajan Singh said. He also pointed out that social media has played a major role in bringing young cricketers into the spotlight much earlier than in previous generations.

To highlight Vaibhav’s self-belief, Harbhajan recalled an incident from the youngster’s IPL debut with Rajasthan Royals. According to the former off-spinner, head coach Rahul Dravid asked Vaibhav what he planned to do if the very first delivery was in his hitting zone. The teenager confidently replied that he would hit it for a six—and he lived up to his words by launching Shardul Thakur over the boundary on the very first ball of his IPL career.

Harbhajan said that fearless stroke perfectly summed up Vaibhav’s mentality and explained why he is regarded as one of India’s brightest young batting prospects.

The former India spinner also shared a valuable lesson he learned from batting legend Sachin Tendulkar during his playing days. Harbhajan recalled that Tendulkar always stressed the importance of remaining grounded, staying focused on cricket and not allowing fame or distractions to overshadow the game.
