Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has been penalised by the BCCI for over-rate offense during his team’s three-wicket defeat to Gujarat Titans in an IPL 2025 match on Tuesday. In a rain-affected contest at the Wankhede Stadium, MI’s winning streak came to an end after six matches in what was a last-ball thriller.

MI, having breached the time limit to complete their quota of overs while defending 147 (target revised as per DLS), the five-time champions allowed only four fielders outside the inner ring in the final over from which GT needed 15 to win after a short rain-break. The visitors ended up chasing the target on the last ball.

Hardik Pandya has to fork out a fine of ₹24 lakhs since this is the second time this season that MI have committed the offense. “As it was his (Pandya’s) team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined INR 24 lakhs,” read a statement.

Additionally, the rest of the MI XI, including Impact Sub (Karan Sharma) and concussion sub (Ashwani Kumar) have been fined ₹6 lakh individually or 25 per cent of their respective match fee, whichever is less.

“The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player and the concussion substitute, were each individually fined either INR 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” the statement read.

Batting first, MI fought their way to post a decent 155/8 at the Wankhede Stadium thanks to a half-century from Will Jacks and useful contributions from Suryakumar Yadav (35) and allrounder Corbin Bosch (27).

In reply, GT also struggled to get going in their chase before Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler stitched a fine 72-run stand to put the former champions in control. A collapse followed with the dismissal of captain Shubman Gill (43) before the visitors managed to eke out a close win.
