During the first match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings at Mumbai, the home team came in front of an unfortunate news when its star all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, injured himself on the last ball of the first innings.

After being put in to bat by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, captain of Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians scored a decent 165-4 in 20 overs. The Pandya brothers remained unbeaten till the end to finish the innings for the home team.

Krunal Pandya finished the innings well for CSK.

On the last ball of the first innings, Hardik Pandya hit a Dwayne Bravo delivery to deep midwicket. In a bid to sneak out an extra run, Hardik Pandya turned swiftly and ended up twisting his ankle. Leave aside running the second run, Pandya fell flat on the ground and was seen in a considerable amount of pain.

While turning to run the second run, Hardik Pandya also collided with Bravo. However, the collision had no real impact on him falling on the ground. Hardik Pandya was in pain to the extent that he had to be carried away of the ground from the support staff.

Earlier, Hardik Pandya struggled to get going as he failed to finish the innings for his team. He came in to bat in the 13th over and ended up scoring 22* (20) with the help of two fours. Had he struck at least a couple of blows towards the end, Mumbai Indians would have posted a handsome total on the board.

Mumbai Indians would be pleased to see Hardik Pandya bowl in the powerplay for they wouldn’t have wanted to lose someone of his caliber to be out due to injury.
