India captain Harmanpreet Kaur found herself at the centre of a light-hearted yet memorable moment ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup when she was asked about retirement during a media interaction. The experienced batter, who is set to lead India in another major ICC event, handled the question with her trademark wit, drawing laughter from everyone present at the captains’ press conference.

The interaction took place during a joint media session featuring captains from participating teams ahead of the highly anticipated tournament. While much of the discussion focused on preparations and expectations, one question about Harmanpreet’s future in the game briefly stole the spotlight.
When asked whether retirement was something she had started thinking about, the India skipper responded with an awkward smile before turning the question back on the journalist.

“Do you think I should stop?” Harmanpreet Kaur asked, immediately sparking laughter across the room. After the reporter clarified that he was simply checking on her future plans, Harmanpreet delivered another quick response. “Then, why are you asking then?” she said, once again leaving the room amused and creating one of the most talked-about moments from the press conference.

While the exchange provided a lighter side to the media event, Harmanpreet also spoke seriously about the growth of women’s cricket in India and the impact of the national team’s recent achievements. The veteran batter highlighted how success on the international stage has inspired more young girls to take up the sport.
“We have seen that during last year’s World Cup when we won. After that, we have seen massive change,” Harmanpreet Kaur said. “Many girls, they’re coming to play cricket, and I think when we do well a lot of things change, and hopefully, we play our best cricket and try to make impact on women’s cricket.”

India will head into the tournament with high expectations as they continue their pursuit of a maiden Women’s T20 World Cup title. The team will first play warm-up matches against West Indies and England before beginning their official campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on June 14.
Harmanpreet’s side will also face the Netherlands, South Africa, Australia and Bangladesh in a challenging group. With only the top two teams advancing to the semifinals, India will need a strong start if they are to emerge as serious contenders for the trophy and finally end their long wait for global T20 glory.
