Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has become the next president of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and his selection to the post of the Indian cricket board was smooth. Reports on Sunday evening suggested that N Srinivasan’s man Brijesh Patel would be the new president of the BCCI but after some late evening discussion, Sourav Ganguly emerged as the suitable candidate.
On Monday, Ganguly filed his nomination and since all the candidates have emerged unopposed, no election took place. According to some inside story of NDTV, it has come to know that former BCCI President N Srinivasan had organised a dinner at a 5-star hotel for nearly a 100 BCCI members for them to be on his side and to gain a lot of votes for his man — Brijesh Patel.

Everything was going well for Patel till about 9:30 last night until a few members shared that the same person, because of whom the board had suffered a lot for the past few years, or his proxy can’t be brought back to the post. At that time, Anurag Thakur suggested Sourav Ganguly’s name and he got the backing from the North-Eastern as well as the Western states too. As of now, Ganguly’s stint will be for 10 months.
Ganguly has been associated with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) for the past five years and according to Lodha Committee recommendations, an administrator can stay on any post for six years on the trot. With this, a 33-month term of the Committee of Administrators will end as well.
