Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been regarded as one of the best chasers of ODI cricket. He has a tendency of coming down hard under pressure especially when the team gets under the pump. The cricketer made his international debut a decade ago and since then, there has been no looking back for him. His career has only seen an upward trend and he has made own a number of records during this period.
Kohli is also known as a dependable batsman, especially during run chases. Out of 208 matches in his career, he has batted second on 120 instances and has notched 5772 runs at an awe-inspiring average of 67.90 to go with as many as 21 centuries. On Tuesday, Australia struggled in their quest to chase down the humungous total of 481 runs and they needed someone like Kohli to give England a run for their money.

The match at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham turned out to be a one-sided affair as the English team as the hosts thrashed Tim Paine and his men by a huge margin of 242 runs. They also handed the visitors a series defeat by a margin of 3-0 with two matches remaining. Johnny Bairstow and Alex Hales spearheaded the English batting and racked up their respective centuries.
Jason Roy and Eoin Morgan’s quickfire half-centuries can’t be undermined as well. They notched up the highest score in ODIs with nearly five overs to go. In the second innings, Australia lost wickets at regular intervals and never looked in the game during the chase. Travis Head scored 51 runs but got out immediately. Marcus Stonis showed some fight, but he got no support from his fellow countrymen.
Subsequently, they got bundled out for meager 239 runs. Meanwhile, former South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs said that he would’ve loved to see Virat chasing down such a huge total. He took to Twitter and wrote, “Would love to have seen @imVkohli in this chase..”
